Artist Statement
The basis of my current work is abstract in nature. I usually paint focusing on form, colour, composition, movement, and emotion. In university, I studied Chinese literature and traditional Asian painting in the Korean style. During my masters, I learned International Public Relations with the focus that art would bind the people similar to the way in which the Olympics bring nations together.
I have developed this unique style through my personal study and experience in both the West and the East. Until now, I have continued to develop my unique style, which conceptually is concerned with human relationships.
I took many pictures, chose some of those images, and then inverted the images to form a pattern. Those small images represent the memories of a person’s life. It could also symbolize a person’s past, present and future. From those memories, we choose the focus for our life and live according to those beliefs.
These forms appear intentionally and are often conscious renderings of intuitive ideas. It is my hope that my paintings tell their own story.
Brief Biography
Sae Hae Kim is a South Korea artist who lives and works in Toronto Ontario Canada. Her interest in art began when as a child, she would venture to her parents art gallery with a pencil and scrapbook at hand.
Years ago in Korea, to be an artist meant financial instability and isolation from society. It was also nearly impossible for an artist’s work to garner notice, unless they were a graduate from a prestigious art college. She realized she needed to paint well and study hard, if she were to fulfill her dream of inspiring an emotional connection with others through her artwork.
In college, she studied Chinese literature and fine art with an emphasis on oil painting; creating over three-hundred paintings during her tenure. She has since studied independently in over twenty countries, while still finding the time to lecture and display her art in various exhibitions and galleries.
